The focus of this workshop is experimentation and play– both integral parts of the creative process. Sometimes the best results emerge when we are relaxed and enjoying the process without the weight of expectation; it is in these moments of spontaneity that we discover novel shapes and forms that breathe life into our work.

We start at the wheel, throwing a variety of forms then work to put them together to create interesting shapes, sometimes functional, sometimes purely decorative. In the process we will learn not only new forms of construction, but also how to hone your eye for composition,.

Day one: I will talk about composition, give a demonstration on construction, then you will throw a variety of simple forms.

Day 2: trimming, experimenting and playing with how to put the pieces together to create a dynamic composition.

Day 3: the finishing touches

Your teacher Michèle :

Originally from NYC, I now live in Italy. I have a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from F.I.T, but also graduated from culinary school. I was a cake decorator for 11 years, combining my food and art background to create sugar sculptures for parties around the world. In London I had a specialty cookie business, but it was in Krakow, Poland that I discovered ceramics. I began studying with a potter there, then moved to Venice, Italy where I opened my studio LAM Ceramica. Over the last 10 years I have been working exclusively in ceramics and my work can be found in stores in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Warsaw, London, Berlin, Venice, Monza, Glasgow, and Zagreb.
